Waterproof Plastic Yarn Blocker

Yarn that is freshly spun will kink and snarl until it is "blocked" (also called "setting the twist"), and this is done by wetting the yarn and then letting it dry while under a slight amount of tension.

Many spinners will make a skein of yarn, wet it, then hang the wet skein over a peg, with a slight weight dangling from the bottom of the skein. While this procedure will set the twist, it does not keep the individual strands of yarn under equal tension while drying, and the yarn ends up being unevenly "blocked".

One of the major drawbacks to yarn blockers made of wood is that the wood is often damaged by the water used to wet the yarn. Some blockers require both hands just to carry them around the house.

These waterproof plastic yarn blockers are designed to allow you to wind the yarn directly from your bobbins onto the blocker, and wet the yarn directly on the blocker.

In warm weather, you can take the yarn blocker and yarn outside, and use the garden hose to wet the yarn and let the sun dry it.

In cooler weather, you can put the blocker and yarn in your bath tub, and use a shower spray, or even pour water on the yarn to wet it.

The smooth arms of the blocker do not leave a crimp in the yarn as it dries.

Designed so that the rotating drum part snaps into the uprights, the entire unit is light and easily carried with one hand.

These yarn blockers are priced at $65.00 each (plus shipping) and are very easy to assemble.

The yarn blocker that you will receive will have dark uprights and horizontal bars on the rotating drum.
