The "Stylus" for Majacraft spinning wheels.
This accessory will screw on the end of the bobbin shaft and allow you to spin 'off of the point' much like a 'great wheel' from the past. This is also known as spinning from a "Quill"
Here is a picture of the Majacraft Stylus (Quill)
It creates a Quill with a total length of about 9 inches when installed with the special bobbin.
The bobbins are quite small (shown here with a standard Plastic bobbin for comparison)
Here you can see the (roughly) 6 inch threaded Quill installed on the bobbin shaft, followed by the quill alongside the bobbin shaft and then showing the distance between the end of the mounted quill and the brass collar.
The special bobbin is slid on first and then the quill is threaded on so the quill will squeeze the bobbin and make the bobbin and quill turn as one.
Here is Maja's instruction sheet for the Stylus (Quill).
The "Stylus" is normally sold as a set of the Quill and either one or two of the special bobbins.
I think this item will be more useful with a single large bobbin flange next to the spinning head so it more nearly resembles the old Quill spinning wheels. Then you could either wrap the bobbin shaft with paper for a removable cop or spin directly onto the bobbin shaft (up against the large flange) and skein off a fully loaded cop directly onto a niddy or skeiner. The special bobbins do not look like they are going to be of much use when spinning anything but fine yarns even though the Quill set up is capable of spinning very bulky yarns.
I'll put together more info when I get time to play with the new "Stylus".
We will (gladly) accept checks, money orders, and bank checks, (all payable in U.S. Dollars) for all purchases. We will only accept "Paypal" to pay for purchases of less than $10.00.
